The National Bank of Ukraine is putting into circulation a new commemorative coin “Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” today, July 22. It continues the “Armed Forces of Ukraine” series. The slogan of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to which the coin is dedicated, is the battle slogan of the Kyiv prince Svyatoslav the Brave: “I’m coming at you!”,

“The obverse of the coin depicts the emblem of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the reverse – a symbolic composition: on the background of the outline of the image of Sviatoslav the Brave with a sword and shield, a soldier of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is depicted,” the message reads.
Details
The coin has a face value of 10 hryvnias. It is made of a zinc-based alloy with a nickel coating. Its circulation is 1,000,000 pieces (including 500,000 pieces in 2022).
Five interesting facts about the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the coin dedicated to them:
- Special operations forces are the youngest and most modern component of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whose creed is the superiority of quality over quantity;
- this commemorative coin is the 14th in the “Armed Forces of Ukraine” series;
- five authors took part in the competition of sketches for the coin. The winners were the sketches of the authors – Andriy Yermolenko and Olga Kovalenko. Andriy beautifully depicted the emblem of the Special Operations Forces for the obverse, and Olga successfully used the image of Svyatoslav the Brave in the design of the reverse, whose legendary saying is now the slogan of these soldiers;
- the design of the coin was created even before the start of the war, and it was minted to the sounds of air raid sirens;
- work on the design of the coin was carried out in cooperation with representatives of the Special Operations Forces.
