Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – December 27, 2020 – Economy
The State Food and Consumer Service together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Association of Pig Farmers of Ukraine (ACU) decided to develop principles of compartmentalization that will prove the safety of individual farms and allow them to export pork and pigs.
The association notes that the spread of African swine fever in Ukraine has led to a ban on Ukrainian pork exports to a number of countries. At the same time, regional zoning could not be used to resume foreign sales.
“The order on compartmentalization was adopted last year. However, companies have not resorted to this procedure before. Now there is a request from the business. Therefore, the State Food and Consumer Service, together with other organizations, has started training experts who will inspect farms and make decisions on granting the status of a compartment, “the statement reads.
The State Food and Consumer Service, together with FAO and ACS, conducted distance learning, which involved more than 160 veterinary inspectors from all over Ukraine.
“During the training, the basic principles and algorithm of actions and measures in the application of the compartmentalization tool in Ukraine, application of the Procedure for determining the separate veterinary and sanitary status of animal subpopulations, audit principles to assign compartment status were considered. The next step is to form a pool of experts of the competent authority based on the test results, practical training on the basis of the applicant company and an audit, the results of which will determine whether the first farm with compartment status will appear in Ukraine in the near future,” ACS said.
