Now, responding to the call of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Latvia supplies Ukraine with medicines and medical supplies to help the wounded.
In the form of donations, various equipment is also sent – devices for lung ventilation, monitors for patients, blood transfusion pumps, vacuum pumps and other equipment for the needs of field hospitals. In total, Latvia donated over 1.5 million euros worth of medicines and equipment for the treatment of the wounded.
Duritis said that Latvia is not going to stop there. According to him, thanks to the participation of non-governmental organizations, the question of how patients will be transported to Latvia after the acute phase of treatment has been resolved.
In addition, university hospitals are ready to help in the immediate treatment of, for example, wounded civilians, as well as to assist the military in performing reconstructive surgical operations, in which Latvian personnel are highly qualified.
According to him, financing of 300,000 euros is currently planned for the rehabilitation process. In addition, additional funding and quotas will be allocated to medical institutions working with victims of the war in Ukraine, so that these people can quickly receive the help they need.
It is also planned to establish an exchange of experience with Ukrainian doctors regarding the rehabilitation process and the use of prosthetics – in these areas, Latvian experience can be useful.
