“Indeed, it seems increasingly likely that Ukrainian forces will be able to retake most, if not all, of the areas that have been occupied by Russian forces in recent months,” said US General David Petraeus.
“If NATO and other Western countries continue to allocate resources at the current rate, (…) I believe that the Ukrainian armed forces will be able to stop the Russian offensive and regain the territories conquered since February 24,” he said.

Asked whether Europe’s nuclear and military postures are strong enough to effectively deter Putin, Petraeus said: “I think so.” “However, it is clear that NATO leaders must take continuous action in direct and indirect communication with President Putin so that there is no doubt about the capabilities of NATO countries and their readiness to use these capabilities in case of need,” he said.
Petraeus also noted that the war in Ukraine is being closely watched in China as well. “The whole world should hope that the leadership in Beijing realizes how important it is now to maintain beneficial relations between China and the Western parties, while recognizing the enormous potential costs of a real conflict for all participants,” Petraeus said.
As the publication notes, the former general and head of the CIA alludes to the tense military-political situation in the Pacific Ocean.
