US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned again that China’s “provocative” actions could lead to a serious escalation and could destabilize the situation in the region .

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum meeting, Blinken told the media that the US has repeatedly told China that it does not seek a crisis. Blinken said US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was peaceful and that “there was no possible justification for what they did” in response.
The Secretary of State said that the US will stick to its allies in the region.
He also said that the US will not be provoked by China’s actions, and that US forces will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows. He pledged that the US would continue to conduct sea crossings through the Taiwan Strait and said that the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier would remain in the area.
Context
China is holding the second day of one of its biggest military exercises around Taiwan. Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense says several Chinese ships and aircraft have been crossing the median line, the informal dividing line in the Taiwan Strait between mainland China and Taiwan, for a second day.
China’s military drills began after a controversial visit to the island by top US Democrat Nancy Pelosi.
Speaking in Japan, Pelosi promised that China “will not isolate” Taiwan by preventing American politicians from traveling there.
