In a conversation with Ukrainian journalists, the former US special representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, said that Ukraine’s victory over Russia would be a signal for China not to touch Taiwan.

“China is watching whether Russia will succeed in the war against Ukraine. Because Russia’s success will mean that open aggression, seizing territory, changing power – it works. And the West will not oppose this. China will get the green light and do whatever they want with Taiwan as they like, because the West does not stop them and does not prevent the change of regimes, the seizure of territories,” explained Kurt Volker.
The diplomat noted that if the invasion of Russia weakens the country itself, its regime, economy, and Ukraine becomes a strong, democratic European state, then this will become a great lesson for China.
