Ukrainian judoka Daria Bilodid won the prestigious “Judo Awards” 2019-2020 from the International Judo Federation.
In a fierce fight, our athlete overtook such famous rivals as the Japanese Abe Uta, the French Clarisse Agbenien, the Canadian Christa Deguchi, and the Japanese Sone Akira.
“In fact, the award came as a surprise to me. When I got a call from the International Judo Federation and was told I had won, I first thought I heard. I thought that the winner would be either a Frenchwoman or a Japanese woman, so I am very pleased that so many people around the world support me, vote, and really consider me the best in the world,” said Bilodid.
In 2019, the Ukrainian won the title of world champion, European champion and winner of the II European Games. In 2020, Bilodid triumphed at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, and was third at a similar tournament in Budapest.
