The first vessel with Ukrainian wheat, exported as part of a “grain” agreement brokered by Turkey, arrived in Istanbul, TRT World reports, citing the Joint Coordination Center .
Details
The Belize-flagged vessel became the first vessel with wheat from Ukraine across the Black Sea after the Russian invasion, the TV channel notes. The ship Sormovsky with 3050 tons of wheat departed from the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk on Friday.
The footage shows the ship crossing the Istanbul Strait and mooring there, waiting for inspection.
It was the first batch of wheat from Ukraine, which, together with Russia, accounted for almost a third of world wheat exports by February 24.
Supplement
Ukraine, the UN, Turkey and Russia signed an agreement (Ukraine and Russia separately) on July 22 aimed at ensuring the safe passage of ships entering and leaving three Ukrainian Black Sea ports (Odessa, Chornomorsk, Yuzhny), which were blocked by Russia after Moscow’s invasion on February 24.
Ukraine and Russia are major grain exporters, and the blockade of ports has delayed tens of millions of tons of grain in the country. The first vessel with grain within the framework of the agreement left the port of Odessa on August 1. The first vessel for loading for the first time since February 24 entered the port in the Odessa region on August 6. So, the corridor started working in both directions.
