German film director, screenwriter and producer Wolfgang Petersen died and was 81 years old.

Petersen passed away on Friday, August 12, at a residence in Brentwood (Los Angeles) in the arms of his 50-year-old wife Marie Antoinette.

He began his career in Germany, but he was invited to Hollywood after the success of the World War II film “Das Boot” (“Submarine”). The film received six Oscar nominations.
