President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to a petition to reduce the salaries of people’s deputies and government officials to a minimum wage and direct the saved funds to the army. The answer is posted on the President’s website .
Details
Zelenskyy noted that meeting the needs of the army and social protection of the population will always remain a constant priority of the state. At the same time, Ukraine is a rule of law state and according to the law, the amount of salaries of people’s deputies is determined by the Verkhovna Rada.
The President instructed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk to work out the issues raised in the petition.
Recall
After the petition appeared, non-fractional people’s deputy Anton Yatsenko registered in the Rada a bill on reducing the salaries of parliamentarians to a minimum salary and depriving them of allowances for the duration of martial law.
MPs and experts call such an initiative populist. Like, Yatsenko is trying to PR on the misfortune of Ukrainians. In addition, some of Yatsenko’s colleagues draw attention to the fact that for him the deputy salary, perhaps, does not matter much, because he managed to brew on his corruption schemes. And analysts of the Chesno movement note that the MP spent more on Facebook ads alone than he earned as a deputy.
It should be noted that according to OPORA, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and until July 5, Yatsenko has not registered a single draft law either as an author or as a co-author. Therefore, it is likely that the bill on salaries of people’s deputies is its first legislative initiative since the beginning of a full-scale war.
