Germany’s ruling coalition called for the launch of Nord Stream 2. During his evening address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the situation around gas pipelines that supply Russian gas to Europe.

“Gas supplies to Germany through the first Nord Stream are again limited and absurd statements are again heard that something can be compensated for through Nord Stream 2. Russia needs these “flows” solely to supply problems to Europe, and not to help someone there with gas. Now it is absolutely obvious,” the President said.

Zelenskyy stressed that the longer the terrorist state remains in the European and world energy market, the longer there will be no stability on it. The Head of State also noted that if “Europe prepares its energy systems for existence without any energy supplies from Russia at all, they will quickly be able to survive any winters”.
Context
Wolfgang Kubiki, vice-speaker of the Bundestag from the Free Democratic Party, which is part of Germany’s ruling coalition, called for the opening of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to fill gas storage facilities for the winter despite Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
