Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Apostolic Nuncio Visvaldas Kulbokas after Pope Francis commented on the death of the daughter of the ideologue of the “Russian world” Daria Dugin, pointing out that “the innocent pay for the war.”

“We have carefully read the full quote of Pope Francis and, firstly, decided to invite the Apostolic Nuncio to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to express Ukraine’s disappointment with these words,” Kuleba said.
He added that the challenge of the Apostolic Nuncio to the Foreign Ministry is unprecedented and “speaks for itself.”
“Let me put it bluntly that the Ukrainian heart is torn from the words of the Pope. It was unfair,” Kuleba said.

Kulbokas was stressed that “Ukraine is deeply disappointed by the words of the Pontiff, which unfairly equate the aggressor and the victim.”
“At the same time, there is a misunderstanding of Pope Francis’ decision to recall in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war the death of a Russian citizen on the territory of Russia, to which Ukraine has nothing to do,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said in a statement.
