The European Union should continue to exert pressure for the complete demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhya NPP area. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell told journalists on Wednesday, August 31, before a meeting at the level of heads of foreign affairs of the bloc’s countries in Prague .

“We have asked for the immediate demilitarization of the area of this nuclear power plant – the largest nuclear power plant in all of Europe. We cannot play war games next to a place like this. So I hope that the Atomic Energy Agency can rectify the situation. And of course we must continue exert pressure for the complete demilitarization of this part of Ukrainian territory,” Borrell said.

In his words, the Russians are “gambling with nuclear security.”
“We are very supportive of Mr. Grossi (Director General of the IAEA – ed.) and his team. Let’s see what the outcome of this mission will be,” Borrell said about sending the IAEA mission to the ZNPP.

Russia previously opposed the demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
The nuclear power plant has been seized by the occupiers since March 4. On August 31, an IAEA mission left Kyiv for the station.
