In Germany, they approved the candidacy of the new ambassador of Ukraine, who is to replace Andrii Melnyk. According to Spiegel, he became Oleksiy Makeev .

“Aleksii Makeyev will take over the management of the Embassy of Ukraine in Berlin, this was confirmed to SPIEGEL in diplomatic circles. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed an official agreement,” the message reads.

Currently, Makeev is a special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on sanctions policy and a member of the Yermak-McFaul international expert group. He has been in the diplomatic service since 1996. During this time, Makeev managed to work in Berlin and Bern, he knows the German language well.

On July 9, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Andrii Melnyk from the post of Ukrainian ambassador to Germany. The diplomat was remembered for his sharp criticism of the Berlin authorities for delaying the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
In one of the interviews with the German media, the ambassador called the ban on Ukrainian symbols in Berlin on May 8-9 a “slap to Ukraine”.
It is assumed that Melnyk can become the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
