Among our further priorities is the introduction of a full energy embargo against Russia. Regarding the topic of energy, Shmyhal noted that the export of electricity from Ukraine can replace significant volumes of gas imports from Russia.
Therefore, the Prime Minister raised the issue of increasing the possibilities of exporting electricity from Ukraine to the EU. Currently, the trade capacity is 300 MW, while our export potential is up to 2,000 MW. It is expected to increase the volume of electricity exports and the support of the European Commission.
“Also, Ukraine has the largest gas storages and can become the “gas safe” of Europe. Given the received candidate status, the government is determined to accelerate integration into the EU energy market,” Shmyhal added.
