The BBC journalist noted in an interview that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, after the start of a full-scale war, walked the streets of Kyiv to show that he was in place, that he had not left. To which Zelenska replied that she was not surprised and knew that he would act in this way.
“I never had any doubts, we didn’t even discuss whether to stay or not. I knew he was going to stay 100%. And that’s why it’s okay,” said the first lady.
The wife of the Head of State told what kind of leader Zelenskyy can be, what he has shown himself to be in these six months and why he did not leave Kyiv since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“I’ve known him for over 20 years since he was a boy, I know what kind of person he is. He hasn’t changed his basic set-up over the years. He’s the same person I know. I think he’s just not could have acted differently. That’s why I’m not surprised. Sometimes I was even offended by the reaction of people who were surprised. Because I couldn’t understand: have you not seen this before,” said Zelenska.
The first lady of Ukraine said that she rarely sees her husband. This usually happens during joint interviews, events, sometimes in the office. But the couple is “on the phone” every day.
“I hope this separation affects our marriage in a way that makes our bond even stronger, I really hope it does, but we feel for each other, we support each other. We’re in touch.” said Ms. Olena.
