The Church of St. Nicholas in the capital is currently in need of urgent restoration. The Roman Catholic parish found sponsors for its restoration, but the condition for financial support remains the full transfer of the church to the parish.
Details
“The only condition for the allocation of funds remains the transfer of the church to the permanent use of the parish. It is obvious that the state does not have the necessary funds for the proper restoration and preservation of the religious building. Therefore, the Board of Trustees of the Church of St. Nikolay asks the authorities to give believers the opportunity to take care of the shrine on their own by transferring the temple to the religious community free of charge,” the parish notes.
In June, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy responded request that the church was registered on the balance sheet of the National House of Organ and Chamber Music of Ukraine. And according to the Law “On Culture” and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers “On the Conditions of Transferring Architectural Monuments to Religious Organizations”, the House of Music must first be moved to another equivalent building.
But for now, according to the parish, premises for the House of Organ and Chamber Music have been found.

“On February 24, 2022, the management of the State Enterprise “National House of Organ and Chamber Music of Ukraine” (NBOKM) handed over the keys and full custody of the church premises to the rector of the parish. Soon, the musicians will settle at a new address – the government agreed with all interested parties on the transfer of the premises of the October Palace to NBOKM. That is, at the moment, there are no grounds for delaying the legal registration of the transfer of the church of St. Nicholas to the religious community, as the only historical and legal heir of this shrine,” the parish said.
UAH 21.7 million was collected for the restoration of the Church of St. Nicholas .
Lawyer Masi Nayema, who oversaw the costs of the restoration of the church, announced in January of this year that emergency work had been completed.
But the building continues to be in a state of disrepair. On June 1, 2022, the Church of St. Nicholas in Kyiv was to be transferred to the de facto ownership of the Roman Catholic parish of St. Nicholas. However, the Ministry of Culture, Culture and Information Policy, on whose balance sheet the temple is located, still has not prepared all the necessary documents about its transfer.
