After the election of Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister, James Cleverley was appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom.

At the time Boris Johnson announced his resignation, Cleverley held the position of Education Secretary of the Kingdom.
Cleverley, 53, has risen quickly among the Conservatives since he was first elected as an MP for the English city of Braintree in 2015.
He also worked at the Foreign Office as a junior minister, often reporting to Parliament on Britain’s support for Ukraine after the Russian invasion.
As foreign secretary, Truss established herself as a critic of China as well as Russia, and Cleverley indicated that his government would take the same stance.

“We absolutely must firmly support President Zelenskyi and the people of Ukraine, we are absolutely obliged to do so. And I have no doubt that we will continue to be as strong friends now as we were under Boris Johnson,” Cleverley said.
