The department emphasized that if we talk only about Africa, 8 ships (192 thousand tons of grain) were sent to Egypt, Sudan — 3 ships (115 thousand tons), Kenya — 1 ship (50 thousand tons), Algeria — 1 vessel (44 thousand tons), Somalia — 1 vessel (29 thousand tons), Djibouti — 1 vessel (23 thousand tons) and Libya — 1 vessel (16.5 thousand tons).
Also, within the framework of aid to the population of Africa, which, according to the UN, is on the verge of a humanitarian disaster, according to the MIU, 2 vessels chartered directly by the UN World Food Program (WFP) have already been dispatched. There are more than 60,000 tons of wheat on board for the people of Yemen and Ethiopia.
“In addition, thanks to UN partners, another 190,000 tons of grain have already been purchased for further export to the countries of the African continent. In general, 280,000 tons of agricultural products will be exported from the ports of Ukraine in the near future within the framework of WFP work to fight hunger,” they emphasized. in the ministry.
According to the report, the nearest vessel chartered by WFP is the bulk carrier KARIA ANGEL, which is currently undergoing inspection in Istanbul. After inspection, it will be delivered for loading with 30 thousand tons of wheat in the port of Chornomorsk.
Together with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Ministry of Infrastructure called on other states and private investors to participate in the purchase of grain for the population of Africa. “Together, we will be able to significantly increase the volume of supplies of agricultural products and effectively counter the global food shortage,” the agency said.
In particular, according to the agency, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has already announced the allocation of $68 million for the purchase of grain for Africa’s needs.
The Ministry of Infrastructure also noted that 2.37 million tons of agricultural products have been exported since the departure of the first vessel with Ukrainian food until today. In particular, 54 vessels with 1.04 million tons were sent to Asian countries, 32 vessels with 0.85 million tons to Europe, and 16 vessels with 0.47 million tons of agricultural products to Africa.
“It should be noted separately that the initiative signed by Ukraine, the UN and Turkey on the safe transportation of grain and food products does not provide for any restrictions on export destinations,” the agency said.
