When fluid is retained in the body, some drinks can come to the rescue.
Dandelion tea
Studies have shown that dandelion has a diuretic effect, that is, it accelerates the flow of urine. It is also rich in potassium, which lowers sodium levels in the body. Add one teaspoon of dried dandelion to a cup of hot water. Brew for about 10 minutes. Strain and drink this broth three times a day. Dandelion tea may interfere with some medications, though, so check with your doctor before trying this home remedy.
Parsley tea
This vegetable is also a natural diuretic, so it can help reduce fluid retention and bloating. To make tea, add two teaspoons of dried parsley leaves to a glass of boiling water. Let it brew for 10 minutes. Strain and drink up to three times a day.
Lemon juice
Drinking lemon juice will help you empty your bladder more often. Lemon is also a powerful detoxifier that helps flush toxins from the body. Mix two tablespoons of lemon juice in a glass of warm water. You can also add honey to it. Drink once a day for several days or until the condition improves.
Fennel seeds
Studies have shown that fennel seeds act as a diuretic and help flush excess sodium and water from the body. This, in turn, relieves swelling. The seeds also prevent the buildup of toxins in the body, aid digestion, eliminate gas and stimulate perspiration. Pour one teaspoon of fennel seeds into a glass of hot water. Strain and drink three times a day until you see improvement.
Cranberry juice
Another popular home remedy for fluid retention. Not only is cranberry juice a natural diuretic, it is also rich in minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium, which help maintain proper fluid balance. Drink a glass of unsweetened cranberry juice daily.
