The dam burst occurred at an abandoned diamond quarry near the village of Jagersfontein. Local authorities report significant damage to civil infrastructure in the village of Charlesville, many residents had to leave their homes in a hurry. 9 houses were completely destroyed, another 20 were seriously damaged.
According to preliminary data, as a result of the emergency situation, 32 people were injured, 3 more people died and 4 are considered missing.
