NASA will make another attempt to launch a two-stage Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with an Orion capsule as part of the Artemis 1 mission to the Moon on September 27. This is stated on the website of the space agency .
Details
NASA engineers have reportedly completed repairs and replaced leaky seals on the SLS rocket’s two fuel lines. Earlier, on September 3, an attempt to launch the Artemis 1 mission was canceled due to a hydrogen fuel leak.
This week, the teams will conduct environmental tests to ensure that the hydrogen leak problem has been resolved, as well as conduct “pumping tests” and evaluate pre-pressurization procedures. To do this, the launch controllers will fill the SLS rocket with ultra-cold liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, NASA informs.
The next attempt to launch the Space Launch System rocket as part of the Artemis 1 mission could take place on September 27 at 11:37 (16:37 GMT), provided that the leak problem is fixed. In addition, the agency needs permission from the United States Space Force to launch. The reserve launch date is October 2 at 14:52 (19:52 GMT).
During the second attempt on September 3, shortly before the start , a new fuel leak was discovered .
Addition
NASA wants to build a lunar space station called Gateway and maintain a permanent presence on the moon to understand how to survive very long space missions before a mission to Mars in the 2030s.
