“We call on the parties to a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict in compliance with the norms of international law, in particular respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states within their internationally recognized borders.
At the same time, we note the worthlessness of any mediation and peacekeeping efforts on the part of the Russian Federation, which once again demonstrates its inability to fulfill its commitments,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges Ukrainians to refrain from visiting Nagorno-Karabakh for the time being, and those who are already in the region to avoid places of military activity.

The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has been going on since the 1990s. The previous serious episode was extinguished in the fall of 2020, when Russian peacekeepers were introduced to Karabakh. However, the conflict resumed in March 2022, already after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
On July 17, 2022, the president of Azerbaijan accused Russia and Armenia of violating the agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, the Ministry of Defense of Russia has not fulfilled its promise to ensure the withdrawal of the Armenian military from Nagorno-Karabakh by June 2022.
