Residents of the Crimean peninsula are waiting for the breakthrough of the Ukrainian army into the village of Chongar, said the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov .

“The successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv and Kherson regions did not go unnoticed in Crimea. Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians called me from Crimea and said that they were happy and really wanted the next breakthrough to take place in the direction of Chongar,” Chubarov assures.

The village of Chongar, located on the peninsula of the same name, is the last settlement on the road leading from Kharkiv to Simferopol, before the bridge to Crimea.
“The people of Crimea say: don’t forget that we are also very much waiting,” Chubarov added.
After the annexation of Crimea, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people was recognized in Russia as an extremist organization and banned, and Chubarov himself was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison in 2021.
