The Russian private military company Wagner, which is linked to the Kremlin, has been recruiting Russian prisoners to participate in the war against Ukraine since at least July.

The intelligence officers note that for participating in the war against Ukraine, Russian prisoners are offered a reduced sentence, as well as monetary incentives. Thus, in a recently published video, Evgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the “Wagner” PMC, is likely to be recruiting convicts, emphasizing that he is “only looking for fighters for airborne assault units,” reports the Ministry of Defense of Britain.
