Movement across the Finnish-Russian border became more active immediately after the Kremlin announced a partial mobilization on Wednesday, according to Finnish border guards .

“Traffic on the eastern border has increased overnight. Traffic has increased compared to previous weeks, but is still low compared to pre-pandemic times. Our resources are sufficient and the situation is under control,” the country’s border service said on Twitter.

About 4,824 Russians arrived in Finland through the country’s eastern border on Wednesday, Matti Pitkaniitti, head of international affairs at the Finnish border guard, said on Twitter, up from 1,691 on the same day last week.
However, Pitkaniitti noted that the number of people crossing the border on Wednesday was lower than usual on weekends.
Border traffic remained brisk on Thursday morning, the Southeast Finland Border Service said in a statement.
