“On September 25, around 3:00 p.m., the forces and means of air defense of the Southern Air Command shot down the Shahed-136 kamikaze drone, which the Russian occupation forces were using to attack Mykolaiv,” the message reads.
Context
The first clear evidence of Russia’s use of Iranian drones emerged earlier this month, when the Ukrainian military released several images of downed drones painted in Russian colors near Kupyansk, Kharkiv Oblast.
A day later, British military intelligence supported this claim, saying that Russia was using Iranian-made drones.
US officials have said since July that Tehran was preparing to sell hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles to Moscow, and later said Iran was also training Russian pilots in how to use the drones.
Iran’s foreign ministry previously rejected the claims, saying the country would not help either side in the war, even though Tehran believes “NATO is the main cause of the conflict.”
