Negotiations on the creation of a nuclear safety zone at the Zaporizhia NPP seized by the Russian occupiers have begun, the head of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi, announced on Twitter on Monday, September 26, about the meeting with the US representative on this issue .

“The week of the meeting of the General Directorate of the IAEA began with a meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins. The focus is on the urgent creation of a nuclear safety zone and the protection of the Zaporizhia NPP,” Grossi said on Twitter.

The head of the IAEA emphasized that the work to ensure the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities remains a priority and the support of the US is highly valued.

On September 12, it was reported that consultations on the creation of a safety zone had begun at the ZNPP.
The government notes that a 30-kilometer safety zone should be created around the ZNPP.
