“While during the reporting period the Mission had unhindered access to POW internment sites in the territory controlled by the Government of Ukraine, the Mission did not receive confidential access to any POW internment sites in the territory controlled by the armed forces of the Russian Federation and associated armed groups,” – the report says.

Matilda Bogner reported that the UN mission recorded that the majority of Ukrainian prisoners of war were tortured or ill-treated by Russia. In addition, the documented death of two Ukrainian servicemen as a result of torture.
“Such improper treatment of prisoners of war is obviously systematic not only during their capture, but also after their transfer to places of internment both on the territory of Ukraine, which is occupied by the Russian Federation, and in the Russian Federation. The UN welcomed Ukraine’s efforts to investigate and prosecute violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law committed by Russia against the background of a full-scale invasion.
