During martial law in Ukraine, foreigners have no right to adopt Ukrainian children. This was announced at a briefing by Daria Gerasymchuk, Adviser-Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children’s Rights and Children’s Rehabilitation .

“We can say that the adoption of Ukrainian children by citizens of other countries is not happening today. That is, we must clearly understand that now the adoption procedure is possible only only for citizens who have Ukrainian citizenship, who are permanently in Ukraine, who are not in the temporarily occupied territories. And they can only adopt a child who is on the territory of Ukraine,” Gerasymchuk explained.

The Commissioner of the President also added that those children who are now abroad also cannot be adopted during martial law.
“We must wait for the victory, and then the children who return will regain their right to be adopted. And then citizens of other countries will also be able to resume in this direction,” the commissioner explained.
