They are similar in folding mechanism to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip.
Apple has completed durability tests on two different prototype foldable iPhones. They are similar in terms of the folding mechanism to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip, that is, the former bends along the vertical axis, and the latter resembles classic clamshell phones.
Both folding iPhone prototypes are not fully functional at the moment. During testing, the emphasis was on checking the durability of the display and the hinge mechanism. As previously reported, prototypes of foldable iPhones were tested at Foxconn, during which they were opened and closed at least 100,000 times.
The data gathered during testing will help Apple determine the final form factor of the foldable iPhone smartphone, as well as the type of display used. UDN confirms that the company will abandon one of the two options and focus entirely on the second, but which one is still unknown.
At the moment, it is believed that the first iPhone with a foldable screen may appear only in 2022.
