Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – January 5, 2021 – Policy
Dobkin believes that the Office of the President with Arsen Avakov may delay the process of calling new elections for the mayor of Kharkov.
Mikhail Dobkin, who was the mayor of Kharkiv until the deceased Gennady Kernes, from 2006 to 2010, confirmed to the Strana newspaper that he plans to run for mayor of Kharkiv.
“The only question is when these elections will take place,” Dobkin said.
So, the early elections of the mayor of the city should be appointed by the Verkhovna Rada. According to the law, elections can take place on the last Sunday in March or the last Sunday in October. People’s deputies must vote for early elections no earlier than 60 days before the day of their holding. And so that the elections of the new mayor of Kharkiv take place on March 28, the decision must be made no later than January 26, when the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will return to work after the winter holidays.
However, Mikhail Dobkin has doubts that parliamentarians will vote for the appointment of new elections on the 26th. He believes that the decision will be delayed due to the fact that the new elections are unprofitable for the Office of the President and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, who are currently the benchmarks for the “Kernes team” headed by Igor Terekhov, the acting mayor of Kharkiv.
“According to my information, the Office of the President and Avakov’s team, which today has strengthened instead of Kernes with the help of his former team, which has deserted to them, want to postpone the elections until the next term in October or even a year. If at this session (January 26 – ed . ) will not adopt a resolution because the chairman of the profile committee got up on the wrong foot, or they forgot about this issue altogether, taking on some urgent matters, then it will be clear that this is a conspiracy, “Dobkin said.
The ex-regional Dobkin on January 1, 2021 published a video in a suit of Santa Claus, in which he hinted that he would go to the elections for the mayor of Kharkov.
In September 2020, Mikhail Dobkin ran for mayor of Kharkov in local elections. In an interview with Dmitry Gordon, he later explained that he did this not in order to resist the then mayor Gennady Kernes, but “for his safety net.” In the summer, he planned to run for mayor of Kiev. However, after Kernes was transported to Berlin for treatment, Dobkin registered his candidacy for the election of the mayor of Kharkov. The politician said that he would withdraw from the elections as soon as Kernes returned to Kharkov, but Kernes himself did not like this development of events. On October 4, Dobkin withdrew his candidacy from the election of the mayor of Kharkov in favor of Kernes.
In connection with the death of the Kharkiv mayor, elected in the last local elections, Gennady Kernes on December 16, 2020, the duties of the mayor of the city were transferred to the secretary of the City Council and political associate Igor Terekhov. Kharkiv city authorities announced on December 30 that on the last day of the year they will transfer documents to the Verkhovna Rada on the appointment of new mayoral elections. Parliament will have to name the date of the new elections within 90 days.
