The United Kingdom rejected Moscow’s call for a secret ballot in the UN General Assembly next week on whether Russia’s actions to annex four regions of Ukraine should be condemned, and demanded that the 193-member body vote publicly, writes The Guardian .

Britain’s ambassador to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, said Friday that General Assembly rules clearly state that any representative can request a vote recorded in the report.
She wrote to the chairman of the General Assembly: “Holding a secret ballot for the decision of the General Assembly would contradict decades of precedent and undermine the practice of the most representative advisory body in the world.”
Context
Reuters reported that the General Assembly should vote on a draft resolution condemning Russia’s “illegal so-called referendums” and “attempted illegal annexation.” It also reaffirms Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity and calls on states not to recognize Russia’s actions.
In a letter to UN states earlier this week, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, reportedly lobbied for a secret ballot, arguing that Western lobbying means it “can be very difficult if positions are expressed publicly.”
