The European community is shocked by the new level of Russian brutality towards the people of Ukraine – and that’s a good thing.

“This morning we were all shocked that a new level of atrocities was demonstrated in Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and the people of Ukraine. And again, a new level of atrocities was achieved as a result of indiscriminate shelling of Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian infrastructure and, ultimately, hitting, harming, killing and wounding so many Ukrainian citizens,” Cox said.
“Whenever the Russian Federation increases its cruelty, its unilateral cruelty , we are shocked. And this is a good thing, because we should never accept as a norm that a great power in Europe believes that it can use its military power to attack a neighboring country,” the PACE President explains.

He recalled that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation has been excluded from the organization, because it has crossed not only the Ukrainian border, but also the “red lines”.
“We have never stood as united as we do today. And this, in my opinion, is what we can offer Ukraine. We don’t have guns, we don’t have money – we’re other countries and other organizations we deal with. But what we can do is help restore justice for the citizens of Ukraine and help, as far as possible, to end this war as soon as possible, which should never have begun,” he said.
The PACE President also reminded that this week the Assembly will host President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“He accepted my invitation to speak before our meeting. We will ask him, ‘What do you think, Mr. President, you and I are our organization, europe’s oldest and widest treaty-based organization, to protect peace on this continent, what can we do?’ said Cox.
Also, according to him, the PACE cooperates well with the Ukrainian delegation to the Assembly and with Ukrainian diplomats.
“I am also ready to come to Ukraine as soon as possible, again, to demonstrate solidarity, but also to discuss what we can do in practice to help our fellow citizens in Ukraine… So yes, Ukraine can count on our solidarity. I said this when I visited the Ukraine at the invitation of the Speaker of your Parliament. I’m going to say it again when I get back to Ukraine. In the meantime, we are sending our missions to your country, not in order to prepare papers, but in order to negotiate, conclude agreements, to help you prepare as best as possible, perhaps, a special tribunal to bring to justice all (guilty – ed.) people, in fact, of a high level,” the interlocutor says.
He said that the winner of the Vaclav Havel Prize for Human Rights this year was Russian opposition leader Vladimir Kara-Murza.
“He is in prison, but even from prison, he continues to send his signals and appeals to his fellow citizens not to put up with and resist the brutality of this country’s government anymore. Because we must protect human rights, the rights of Ukrainian citizens, which must be taken seriously, which means that they have the right to live their lives, as well as the rights of Russian citizens who have the right to speak out against this brutal aggressive war. So in this sense, I think we are helping the citizens of Ukraine, the state of Ukraine, and we will continue to do so,” he added.
Recall
The Russian army attacked Ukraine 84 missiles and 24 drones in today’s massive strike, destroying 56 of them, including 10 kamikaze drones.
