Leaders of NATO’s eastern flank consider yesterday’s massive shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russia to be a war crime. This is stated in a joint statement by the presidents of the Bucharest Nine and the presidents of North Macedonia and Montenegro, published on Tuesday by the Polish chancellery .

“We, the presidents of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, condemn the massive shelling of Ukrainian cities recently carried out by Russia, which are war crimes under international law,” the statement said.

The Presidents reminded that war crimes and crimes against humanity have no statute of limitations and fall under the jurisdiction of courts around the world.
“On behalf of our states, we demand that Russia immediately cease attacks on civilian targets. We will not stop our efforts to put on trial those responsible for today’s crimes. We consider unacceptable any threats by Russian representatives to use nuclear weapons. In this context, we reaffirm our commitment to the protection of our countries and allies,” the leaders said.
