The British Boxing Commission (BBBoC) has decided to cancel and postpone boxing matches in January 2021.
The increase in the number of coronavirus infections and the spread of the new strain of COVID-19 in the UK – this is the reason for the ban on boxing.
Thus, at least until the end of January 2021, boxing matches in the UK will definitely not be held. The decision on the fighting, which is to take place in February, will later be made by a medical commission.
At least two championship fights had to be postponed indefinitely: the fight between Karim Gerfi and Lee McGregor, which was to take place on January 22 (boxers have to fight for the title of “European Boxing Union” in lightweight), and the fight between David Avanesyan and Josh Kelly (at stake – the title of “European Boxing Union” in welterweight).
