According to preliminary information, 130 thousand square kilometers of the territory of Ukraine need demining. However, this figure will change, because not all territories are still de-occupied.

These figures will be accurate a little later, because many territories are under occupation or directly in the war zone. We can’t pinpoint it because there’s no access there. We understand that this will have to be done, we will have to do more than one decade, because the pollution with explosives is quite high,” said the Deputy Minister.

Shapovalov said that active demining work was underway in the liberated territories.
“First of all, these are places that are used in public life, but work with agricultural enterprises is slowly beginning: inspection, fixation of contaminated areas. A lot of effort has been thrown into implementing security measures in places where civilians are located. The State Mine Action Authority was formed and launched, powerful teams are involved. The work is going on properly,” Shapovalov explained.
He also said that foreign partners are helping. The help is different: someone provides equipment, someone provides protective equipment for sappers, someone takes over training. Shapovalov thanked everyone who provides support.
