It is noted that the IAEA team learned about the release of ZNPP Deputy Director General Valery Martynyuk, who was detained early last week.
“CEO Grossi welcomed his dismissal (…). However, he expressed deep concern over the recent detentions of two other ZNPP employees, confirmed by the IAEA,” the statement said.
“This is another disturbing event that I sincerely hope will be resolved quickly,” Grossi said.

The Russian occupiers kidnapped two employees of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, their whereabouts are unknown. Energoatom called on IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and the world community to make every effort and use all possible measures to release ZNPP employees from captivity of Russian terrorists and facilitate their return.
On October 11, it became known that Russian terrorists abducted Valery Martynyuk, deputy director general of the Zaporizhzhia NPP from personnel.

At the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the Russian occupiers seized the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which is located in Enerhodar. They turned it into a military base. On the territory of the station placed MLRS “Smerch”, “Grad”, tanks and armored personnel carriers.
Energoatom reported that on July 3, an employee of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Andriy Honcharuk, who was beaten and tortured by rashists, died.
The Russians are shelling the station, destroying power lines, causing a power outage of the station and blaming the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On September 1, the IAEA mission arrived at the Zaporizhzhia NPP captured by the occupiers. During a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the need for urgent demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the withdrawal of Russian troops.
