In an address to the Frankfurt Book Fair, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the lack of knowledge leads to the emergence of people calling for “understanding Russia.”

“We must speak frankly: there are still enough figures in Europe who call for “understanding” Russia and try to ignore the terrorist policy of states such as Iran. Such people exist in various fields: in politics, in business, in public organizations and in the media.
Why is this possible? One answer: lack of knowledge. Lack of knowledge in the public majority. Lack of knowledge about the murders committed by Russia. Lack of knowledge about crimes that unite different anti-democratic regimes. The lack of knowledge about corruption that has become their tool to reduce Europe’s vigilance. Lack of knowledge about injustice and lies, which are integral elements of the policy of any terrorist state,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that due to the lack of knowledge, it is easier for politicians to manipulate society, and business magnates can go for any immorality in relations between states. When injustice is overlooked in a country, terror can begin in it.
“Please write about it. Read about it. Do everything so that Europeans know how many people died in the struggle for rights and basic respect. Create, print, distribute books about those who weakened Europe with their decisions because of corruption or simply indifference. About those who have given strength to terrorist states or are even now trying to do everything so that there is no strong reaction to their terror. And be sure to spread stories about the victories of freedom. People need to know that freedom can survive even when it seems to many that it will not. Europeans must not forget that murderers and executioners are still accountable before the court, even if they had considerable power and influence. Remind people of this. Thanks to this knowledge, they will feel that the current perpetrators of the genocide policy and war criminals can actually be brought to justice,” Zelenskyy said.
