German media report that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Kyiv.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier made a surprise visit to Ukraine. He arrived in the capital of Kiev by train in the morning. There he will also meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the day. Steinmeier wants to see firsthand the destruction caused by the Russian attacks. It is the first time in Ukraine since the beginning of the war on February 24.
This is the federal president’s third attempt to go there. This was postponed last week for security reasons. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), which is responsible for protecting him, then tweeted that “given the current risk situation, it recommended postponing federal President Steinmeier’s planned trip to Ukraine.”
A few days earlier, Russia had repeatedly attacked Ukrainian infrastructure with missiles and drones, causing serious damage to electricity and heat supply. The capital Kiev was also attacked.
