Israel is increasingly concerned about the “dangerous proximity” between Russia and Iran in connection with the supply of drones produced in the Islamic Republic to attack Ukraine and, as a result, conducts daily assessments to reconsider its position on the conflict, the country’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid said in an interview with The Jerusalem Post .

“Part of the work we’re doing has to do with the very dangerous proximity that is being created between Russia and Iran,” he said in an interview Sunday. – It’s not something we’re going to ignore or do nothing… So what we need to do is review the situation every day and respond.”

Lapid said Israel is in close consultation with the Americans on the development of the situation. Last Thursday, he spoke by phone with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, and this issue was raised, the newspaper writes.
When asked what prevents Israel from providing Ukraine with missile defense systems, Lapid replied that he balances two opinions.
“First, we are on the side of Ukraine,” he said. – We support them. We have just voted in the UN (General Assembly), telling the world that we will never accept the annexation of four regions (Ukraine by Russia). We are still the only country in the world that has built a field hospital in Ukraine.”
Another view “is to ensure that Israel’s national security interests are permanently protected,” he said.
“Although Lapid did not specify whether Israel’s policy, which is not to supply weapons to Ukraine, is partly due to the mechanism for eliminating the conflict between Jerusalem and Moscow, which allows Israel to strike Iranian targets in Syria without facing Russian troops stationed there. On Monday, Israel allegedly struck a target near Damascus,” the newspaper writes.
Although Israel did not supply weapons, it said it was “ready to help Ukraine create a civilian early warning system for missiles,” the publication notes.
“So we’re going to support Ukraine,” Lapid said. “We will actively support Ukraine and take into account the national security interests of Israel.”
