Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has caused damage to the environment of Ukraine in the amount of more than UAH 1.35 trillion. This was announced by the chief coordinator of the operational headquarters for fixing the eco-crimes of Russia, people’s deputy Elena Krivoruchkina, whose statement is quoted by the press service of the Servant of the People .

“We are talking about 574 cases processed out of more than 800 that have been entered in the register. The greatest damage was caused to atmospheric air, losses in this area amount to UAH 924,068,107.90 thousand,” she said.

Krivoruchkina said that the losses are calculated in the areas of “damage to land resources”, “damage to atmospheric air” and “damage to water resources”. She stressed that the amount of losses can increase significantly after processing all registered cases that have signs of eco-crime, as well as after conducting the necessary examinations in the territories currently occupied by Russia.
The evidence collected by the specialists of the operational headquarters will be used in international lawsuits against the Russian Federation, the MP said.

In September, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reported that almost a third of Ukraine’s forests had been damaged as a result of the war, and the losses amounted to about UAH 16 billion.
