Both ministers told reporters they were concerned about recent missile launches from Pyongyang. Austin said North Korea’s tests would “destabilize the region” and called on Pyongyang to “stop such activities and start a serious dialogue.”
Recall
On November 3, North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea. An informed source said North Korea appeared to have fired a medium- or long-range missile with alleged fuel and a warhead.
The tests came a day after North Korea fired 23 missiles, sparking condemnation from Washington, Seoul and Tokyo.
Hours after the last test, the United States and South Korea announced that they would continue air force exercises, which were to last Monday through Friday this week.
South Korea’s Air Force said the exercise was continuing “in connection with North Korea’s recent provocations.”
