Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko does not rule out that due to Russian shelling, the capital may be without light, heat, water and communication. He urges residents to be prepared for different scenarios, but the metropolitan authorities are doing their best. Klitschko said this on the air of a telethon .

“We are doing everything to prevent this from happening, but let’s be honest, our enemies are doing everything to ensure that the city is without heat, without electricity, water supply and in general we all die. And the future of the country and the future of each of us depend on how prepared we will be for different situations,” Klitschko said, answering the question whether blackout suggests the possibility of blackout in Kyiv.
He added that the metropolitan authorities are calculating various scenarios to be ready for the development of any events. The city, Klitschko noted, has developed a supply of diesel fuel, electric generators, food and drinking water. Heating points are also organized.
“That is, we are ready for different scenarios and in no case will we lower our hands and raise as well, we will fight, defend our city, our country,” he said.
In addition, Klitschko was asked whether a scenario that occurred in Alchevsk in 2006 was possible in Kyiv — then a heating system accident occurred in the city, and utilities did not drain the water from the pipes, so the freezing water tore them apart. Klitschko replied that this would not happen in Kyiv, because the capital had prepared a plan to drain water from the heating system if the heat in the houses disappeared.
“In the event that there are severe frosts and there will be no heat supply, so as not to break the pipes and the system does not go out of operation, we have prepared a plan to purge the discharge of water from the system so as not to damage the network. It’s all worked out and it shouldn’t be,” he said.
Klitschko also urged residents of the capital to learn in advance about heating, water supply and other critical things for life.
“We will do everything to ensure that there is no such scenario, but we cannot guarantee it, so each of us must also be prepared to respond as quickly as possible,” the mayor said.
Recall
An average of 100 heating points will be prepared in each district of Kyiv, which will work in case of emergencies in winter.
