As noted, the destruction of these facilities can lead to an irreversible drop in the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir, from which cooling water is supplied to ZNPP.
“The results of the analysis, as well as the list of priority compensatory measures to ensure the safety of operation of ZNPP power units in the mode of loss of cooling water supply from the Kakhovka reservoir, will be sent to SNRIU no later than November 9, 2022,” Energoatom noted.
Supplement
ISW analysts pointed out that the occupiers may try to blow up the dam of the Kakhovka HPP and blame Ukraine for this.
According to the Defence Intelligence, the occupiers mined it back in April. The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine stressed that due to the imminent de-occupation of the right-bank part of the Kherson region, Russia is deliberately preparing terrorist attacks on this territory. If the dam of the Kakhovka HPP is blown up, dozens of Ukrainian settlements, including Kherson, will be under water.
The mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Volodymyr Kovalenko, said that the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP would result in the flooding of 80 settlements and would have a negative impact on the environment.
NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov stated that if Russia blows up the Kakhovka HPP, the temporarily occupied Crimea will be left without water supply for 10-15 years, and maybe forever.
