“This situation once again shows how dependent we are on electricity, how much the modern economy depends on electricity. Currently, it is impossible to name any industry that can work normally and taxigate in this situation. The chemical industry, metallurgy, food industry do not function normally. Not only enterprises do not work, but also offices. We have already talked about a 30% drop in GDP, but now it will accelerate and, perhaps, it will be 40%. The first problem that will arise is that most Ukrainians may not receive a salary for October. After all, if the enterprise does not work, there is no salary,” Okhrimenko said.
As to whether to expect a shortage of certain products, due to interruptions in the work of enterprises, the economist believes that this is not predicted.
“At the moment, there will be no bright shortages, because everything is still there. After all, some enterprises are trying to work, and some have stopped. In addition, the blackout is uneven, someone has it, someone does not. Someone has their own capacities, but someone does not have them. Therefore, if one brand disappears, another will be available,” the economist said.
