Turkey and Asian countries with a high markdown are buying Russian coal, the acquisition of which is under EU sanctions, Bloomberg reports .
Details
“Europe’s strict ban on imports of Russian coal, which came into force on August 10, pushed the supply of Russian coal, which was abandoned, to Turkey, India, China and Africa,” the publication writes.
As noted, these coal cargoes are sold “at a significant discount”, compared to coal of similar quality from other countries.
In September, Turkey imported Russian thermal coal at a price of $ 199 per metric ton, which is 23% lower than that of coal of a similar grade from Colombia, its next largest supplier, the publication writes.
Supplement
On August 10, the EU embargo on coal imports from Russia came into force. Heavy losses threaten not only Russian miners, but also railways and seaports in the Baltic and Murmansk.
