Details
According to the president of the country, it is dangerous that talking about nuclear weapons has become commonplace. During his speech at the opening of the national defense course, he said that Finland, as a future NATO member, does not intend to deliver nuclear weapons to its territory, and “there is no indication that anyone is offering them” to the country. Niinistö noted that nuclear weapons are an important part of the Alliance’s deterrence posture, but “they are a means of prevention, not an end in itself.”
The President of Finland also noted that Ukraine has every right to defend its integrity and legal borders, and the Russian army has no right to stay on Ukrainian soil. He stressed that Helsinki is ready to help Ukraine for as long as necessary.
Recall
On May 18, Sweden and Finland formally applied to join NATO in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In early November, Turkey said the countries had not yet fulfilled all their commitments under an agreement confirming their applications to join the Alliance.
