“Ukraine seeks to accelerate reforms and accelerate the work necessary for this. It’s positive. But not all seven reforms can be completed quickly. Therefore, it is not yet possible to establish a schedule for the start of negotiations,” Vargei said.

Thus, even if Kyiv manages to enter the negotiation process by the end of 2023, Brussels has rejected the goal of completing them within a year.
“Given the extensive work required to prepare for participation in the EU internal market and many other important policy areas, all preparations for accession are likely to last more than a year or two,” he said.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanyshyna noted that a large number of reforms had been carried out in Ukraine under the supervision of the EU. According to her, the European Union can act faster and not apply the “usual procedure” to Ukraine.
However, Oliver Vargei sharply replied “The same criteria apply to Ukraine as for all other applicants,” the official said.
