“Putin failed,” Kal said. “Russia will come out of this war weaker than it entered.”
Kal noted that Russia has suffered losses of “tens of thousands” since the start of the war in February, which is “an order of magnitude” more than the Soviet Union has suffered in Afghanistan.
“They probably lost half of their main battle tanks in the entire Russian army,” Kal said. – In Ukraine, more than 80% of their ground forces are “mired”. They have spent most of their precision munitions in Ukraine, and sanctions and export controls make it very difficult to restore their armed forces to the state they were in before the war.”

“Putin went to this war, trying to destroy Ukraine as an independent, sovereign, democratic country. He’s failed and that’s not going to change. A sovereign, independent, democratic Ukraine will survive,” said the Deputy Head of the Pentagon.
Kal noted that there is considerable bipartisan support for Ukraine’s advancement, but what that support looks like and what Ukraine’s military needs are could change in the future.
Supplement
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of the Ukraine, the losses of the Russian occupiers have already reached about 77,950 people, 2801 tanks and hundreds of pieces of military equipment.
